Fund/Strategy Overview:
Seneca Australian Small Companies Fund is benchmarked against the S&P/ASX Small Ordinaries Index Total Return and aims to outperform the benchmark by 3% per annum after fees. The Fund follows a long-only Australian equity strategy, constructing a concentrated portfolio of 20 to 50 sufficiently liquid small- and mid-cap ASX-listed companies, with discretion to hold up to 50% in cash. It does not use derivatives or leverage. The manager favours high-quality, profitable and growth-focused businesses with strong balance sheets, sustainable competitive advantages, large and growing addressable markets and management teams aligned with shareholders. The investment process combines fundamental, bottom-up company valuation and analysis with top-down macroeconomic research and technical analysis. Research focuses on the drivers of revenue, costs, profit growth, cash flow, return on capital, balance-sheet strength and industry structure. Valuation discipline is applied by seeking securities that are both fundamentally undervalued and supported by a catalyst. Portfolio construction emphasises diversification, liquidity and the mitigation of permanent capital loss, while positioning towards securities with the manager's highest expected returns.
