Manager Summary
Bennelong Long Short Equity Management (BLESM) is an Australian Absolute Return Manager established in 2002 by Richard Fish in conjunction with the Bennelong Group. Fish subsequently retired in 2017. Sam Shepherd joined in 2012 and from 2017 has led the four person investment team, which includes Sam Taylor, Head of Research, and Senior Investment Analysts Steven Lambeth and Justin Hay, all of whom are shareholders in the management company.
On 16 September 2026, Antipodes Partners, an affiliate of Pinnacle Investment Management, entered into a binding agreement to acquire Bennelong Funds Management Group. Further updates will be provided as more information regarding the transaction and any resulting business changes becomes available
Strategy Summary
The Manager applies a qualitative selection process to create a diversified portfolio of primarily ASX Top 100 "paired" securities selected from within the same ASX sector, and which are dollar neutral at cost.
In a typical environment the Fund will hold around 35 pairs and 70 stocks. Each pair contains balanced long and short positions selected from the same market sector. The Fund uses no derivatives and has no currency exposure.
